Da Nang has widened the areas where visitors can swap the stablecoin USDT for Vietnamese dong through a pilot app, from three sites to ten key areas, Tuoi Tre News reported on October 18.

The app, Basal Pay, is developed by AlphaTrue Solutions and runs under the city's regulatory sandbox, which approved the pilot in August 2025. It began at the Da Nang Software Park, Software Park No. 2 and the Da Nang Innovation and Startup Support Center. The areas now named include Da Nang International Airport, central Hải Châu, the An Hải–Mỹ Khê–Ngũ Hành Sơn coastal strip, Hội An, Bà Nà Hills and several golf venues: Legend Danang Golf Resort, Ba Na Hills Golf Club, Montgomerie Links Vietnam, Hoiana Resort & Golf and Vinpearl Golf Nam Hội An.

The limits are tight. Conversions are capped below 1,000 USDT per transaction and 30,000 USDT per account per month, and users cannot pay for goods or services directly in crypto; they must convert to dong first.

Lê Sơn Phong, deputy director of the city Department of Science and Technology, said every transaction met anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorism-financing requirements. Tran Huyen Dinh, AlphaTrue's chief executive, said the app has about 10,000 registered accounts and more than 15,000 transactions after one year, with over US$100,000 in USDT converted at the original three sites.

Phong said the results could support further pilots, possibly covering stablecoins, tourism finance and cross-border settlement. He said six sandbox projects have been approved so far. Any new pilot would need its own approval.
