The rebuild of Biện Bridge, on the Lê Văn Hiến–Trần Đại Nghĩa road in Ngũ Hành Sơn ward, is running late. Báo Đà Nẵng reported on October 17 that the project board has asked the Department of Finance to move the deadline for this part of the work to December 31, and expects the bridge to be technically ready to open in December.
The bridge is part of the emergency dredging and flood-drainage works on the Cổ Cò canal, and the road is a key link at the city's southern gateway. Construction began on January 12, 2024, with 480 days planned. The original target for this item was June 30, 2026, while the wider project runs to May 2027.
According to the paper, the contractor, Xuân Quang Construction Joint Stock Company, has finished one pier and some deck structures and is moving on to the second stage of girder work. Railings, crash barriers, drainage ditches and pavements remain. Demolishing the old bridge largely by hand or with handheld tools, and difficult ground during bored-pile work, are cited as causes of the delay. Xuân Quang deputy general director Đào Quang Huy told the paper the crew aims to finish abutments, piers and underwater utilities before this year's flood season (translated from Vietnamese).
Why it matters
The bridge sits on a route drivers in the south of the city use daily, and its drainage role is tied to flood protection. The report does not say whether traffic is restricted now, gives no budget for the bridge and does not say whether the Department of Finance has agreed to the new date, so December 31 is still a request.
