On August 12, 2026, the Ministry of Construction approved a rebuild of runway 17R/35L and the taxiway system at Da Nang International Airport. Decision No. 1417/QĐ-BXD puts the cost at about 1,696 billion dong from the central budget, VnEconomy reported. The work is scheduled for 2026 to 2028, and the ministry's Thăng Long Project Management Board will run it.
The 3,049-meter western runway is the airport's older one. Parts date from 1965, and its middle section was last upgraded in 1999. The 3,500-meter eastern runway has been in use since 2012. The project will bring the western runway and its taxiways up to the ICAO 4E standard, built for wide-body jets such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350. It will also add a rapid-exit taxiway and new links between the two runways.
Thời báo Tài chính Việt Nam reported that groundbreaking is planned for late November 2026. The same report said the ministry turned down a proposal from airport operator ACV for quick patch repairs to damaged concrete slabs by the end of October, calling them inefficient. The ministry approved a design shortcut that it says saves about a month.
What it means for travelers: the project requires the airport to keep flights running safely while the work goes on. No closure schedule or flight changes have been announced. We will report them when the airport or the Civil Aviation Authority publishes them.
