Da Nang has merged the Trưng Vương Theatre and the Traditional Arts Theatre into one body, the Da Nang Arts Theatre, according to reports published on October 14, 2026 by Báo Đà Nẵng and Tuổi Trẻ. The decision was issued by People's Committee Chairman Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng (No. 4694/QĐ-UBND, per Báo Đà Nẵng), and the new theatre is due to start operating on November 1.

The Arts Theatre will be a public, non-business performing-arts unit under the city's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with professional guidance from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's performing arts department. Its listed duties are staging performances for the city's political and cultural calendar and for residents' entertainment, preserving traditional performing arts, providing public services, and developing arts products tied to cultural industries and cultural tourism.

Two stages with different histories

Tuổi Trẻ says the Trưng Vương Theatre dates to 2002, when the city's song, dance and music troupe was merged with the Da Nang Performance Organization Company. It was rebuilt in 2006 with more than 1,200 seats and is a regular venue for civic and cultural events. The Traditional Arts Theatre is much younger: it was created in September 2025 by combining the Nguyễn Hiển Dĩnh Tuồng Theatre, formerly a Da Nang city body, with the Quảng Nam Opera Troupe, formerly under Quảng Nam province.

Why it matters

For audiences, the practical questions are not yet answered in the reports: they do not say where the new theatre will be headquartered, how many staff it will have, what happens to existing programmes, or whether ticket arrangements change. The merger continues the consolidation that followed the 2025 joining of Da Nang and Quảng Nam, this time among the city's performing companies. Readers who follow tuồng, the classical Vietnamese theatre form, or book events at Trưng Vương should watch for announcements from the new theatre after it opens on November 1.
