Da Nang will train 500 people to drive vessels and high-speed craft for disaster response, with the city budget paying all costs, Báo Đà Nẵng reported on October 23. The plan follows City People's Committee Official Letter No. 10862 of October 21.
According to the report, 250 places are for a vessel-driving certificate and 250 for a high-speed craft course for people who already hold that certificate. Trường Cao đẳng Hàng hải và Đường thủy II will teach and test in Da Nang, with the City Military Command leading the organisation for 2026 and 2027.
The vessel-driving course is planned to open before October 30 with testing finished by December 15. The high-speed craft course is to start before March 15, 2027. Trainees come from city departments, communes, wards and special zones and are meant to form a reserve "assault force" for disaster prevention and search and rescue.
Why it matters: The city is building a pool of trained boat operators ahead of the next storm and flood season.
