Da Nang's health sector has chosen the first five medical tourism packages it wants to put in front of visitors, according to Báo Đà Nẵng, the city's own newspaper, which reported on October 19. The paper's English edition ran the same story the same day.

What is on the list

Three public hospitals supply the packages. The Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital (the English edition calls it the Hospital for Women and Children) offers three: a female fertility assessment before in vitro fertilization (IVF), a male fertility assessment before IVF, and screening plus IVF treatment including ICSI. The Maxillofacial Hospital (the English edition says Odonto-Stomatology) offers one package for removing impacted or buried wisdom teeth. The Traditional Medicine Hospital offers a wellness package with three combinations of heat or "fire" therapy, herbal steam, herbal baths, acupressure massage, herbal compresses, cupping and hyperbaric oxygen.

The targets

The Department of Health wants at least five combined healthcare-and-resort packages by the end of 2026, ten from the second quarter of 2028 and fifteen from the second quarter of 2030, the paper reports. By 2030 it wants at least two public facilities to meet one international standard for professional capacity and service quality, and a yearly rise of at least 5 percent in the share of foreign patients.

Deputy Director Võ Thu Tùng said the city will give priority to public facilities that offer services suited to tourists' stays, and will link hospitals with tourism businesses, transport providers, international health insurers and interpretation services. Priority fields named include cancer and chronic-disease screening, dentistry, eye care, aesthetics, infertility treatment, rehabilitation and traditional medicine paired with resort stays. Hospitals are being asked to offer short-stay packages, multilingual support and remote booking, and the health department is working with the tourism department on a medical tourism guide and website updates.

What to watch

For now these are packages on paper. Until prices and booking details appear, residents and visitors cannot tell how the offers compare with private clinics, which already serve many foreign patients in Da Nang.
