A senior national tourism official urged Da Nang on Wednesday, October 14, to set carrying-capacity indicators for its most fragile sites so that protecting them comes before raising arrival numbers, Tuoi Tre News reported.
Vũ Quang Dũng, deputy head of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, spoke at a green tourism conference run by the city's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. More than 200 delegates from government, associations, international organizations and businesses attended, according to Báo Đà Nẵng. Dũng named Sơn Trà Peninsula and Cù Lao Chàm as ecologically sensitive areas and Hội An and Mỹ Sơn as heritage destinations. He also suggested expanding tourism toward the west of the city and piloting energy audits at large coastal and Hàn River hotels. His authority, he said, is studying green credit, help with certification costs and priority promotion for certified products.
Nguyễn Thị Hoài An, deputy director of the city tourism department, said Da Nang issued "Green Stay" hotel criteria in August and plans to extend green standards to tourist sites by 2027. Báo Đà Nẵng reported the department will turn the discussion into tasks: finishing criteria for green tourism models, shifting from awareness campaigns to practical support, and strengthening coordination.
What is not yet decided
Neither report sets visitor caps for any site, and no deadline for the capacity indicators was given.
