Da Nang Hospital and the Munich-based charity Heart for Heart – Foundation for Life marked 20 years of cooperation on October 20, Báo Đà Nẵng reported, and the foundation handed over a fourth digital subtraction angiography (DSA) system and two ultrasound machines worth a total of €1 million.
The partnership centres on screening, diagnosing and treating congenital heart disease in children. According to figures from the hospital, more than 500,000 children in the region have received free screening over the two decades, nearly 3,700 were diagnosed early and nearly 2,000 received treatment or interventions. The foundation had earlier given the hospital three DSA systems and other devices, including a Philips Azurion 7 B20 system in 2023.
Nguyễn Thị Anh Thi, vice chairwoman of the Da Nang People's Committee, thanked the foundation and said the city aims to become a medical hub for Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands. The foundation's co-founder, Prof. Erich Lejeune, said he and his wife, Dr Irène Lejeune, the foundation's CEO, would keep supporting children with congenital heart disease.
Why it matters: Angiography equipment allows heart conditions to be diagnosed and sometimes treated without open surgery, so the donation extends what the hospital can do locally. The report does not say when the new equipment will enter service.
