Da Nang's City Military Command said on October 16 that it has inspected, accepted and test-operated a cargo drone able to lift 80 to 120 kilograms, along with a motorised inflatable rescue boat, Tuổi Trẻ reported.
According to the command, the drone is meant for civil defence and disaster response. It would carry food, drinking water, medicine and other essentials to places that roads and waterways cannot reach during floods, landslides or storms. The boat is meant to reach flooded neighbourhoods, move people and equipment and help evacuate residents. The command described the purchase as part of modernising its equipment before the rainy season, as floods and landslides become harder to handle.
The report does not give the drone's range, flight time or maker, the boat's size or capacity, the test dates or location, or what the equipment cost. No named official is quoted.
In September, VietnamPlus reported that the city budget had put 28 billion dong into drones able to carry more than 100 kilograms of relief supplies, and that the command had worked with a maritime school to train 284 militia members to operate boats in flood-prone areas. Neither report says whether the drone tested now came from that purchase.
Why it matters
The command's own framing is places that floods, landslides or storms cut off. It has not said where the drone would be based or when it would be used, so for now this is an announced capability rather than a proven one.
