Officials from Da Nang and Laos' Sekong province met on October 20 to discuss how traffic should be diverted at the Nam Giang – Dak Ta-Ook border crossing while National Highway 14D is rebuilt, Báo Đà Nẵng reported.
The session was co-chaired by Hồ Kỳ Minh, standing vice chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, and Khanti Silavongsa, deputy secretary of Sekong province and chairman of its administrative committee. Khanti Silavongsa proposed that both sides agree a specific diversion plan that keeps traffic safe, limits disruption to construction and keeps goods moving. The two sides also agreed to work with businesses on transit arrangements for import and export cargo.
Highway 14D is 74.4 km long and links the Hồ Chí Minh Highway with the Nam Giang (Da Nang) and Dak Ta-Ook (Sekong) border gates. The report says the Da Nang section is expected to be finished in 2027. It does not say when construction at the crossing will start, or what the diversion will look like.
Why it matters: Freight and travellers using the Nam Giang crossing will be affected once works begin. Until a plan is published, it is unclear which hours, vehicles or detours would apply; this brief will be updated when one is announced.
