Da Nang has merged its city Physical Education and Sports Centre and its Centre for Training and Developing Athletes into one body, the Da Nang Sports Training and Competition Centre, according to a notice published on October 14, 2026 by the city portal and a report on October 15 by Báo Đà Nẵng. The People's Committee decision is No. 4693/QĐ-UBND, dated October 13, with a companion decision, No. 4696/QĐ-UBND, setting out the centre's duties and structure. Handover of staff, assets, finances and records is due by October 31, and the new centre starts operating on November 1.

It will be a public, non-business unit run directly by the city's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with professional guidance from the national sports department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Its listed duties include recruiting and coaching athletes, running training and competitions, organizing grassroots sports events for the public, and staging domestic and international events once approved. It is also meant to apply sports science and medicine to training, and it may form joint ventures to run sports services on its facilities. Until new regulations are issued, it carries on the work of both predecessors.

The structure is a director, deputy directors and six functional departments, with the department head approving any later changes to those units.

Why it matters

For residents who use public sports facilities or follow Da Nang's athletes, the practical effects are not in the notices. They do not give an address, staff numbers, a budget or the director's name, and they do not say whether any facility, fee or programme will change. The decision replaces two earlier People's Committee decisions dated September 11, 2025 (Nos. 1448 and 1452/QĐ-UBND). The first concrete signals should come once the centre opens on November 1.
