Da Nang's merged State Legal Aid Centre will start operating under its new name on November 1, Báo Đà Nẵng reported on October 24. Handover of staff, finances and assets from the two former centres must be finished by October 31.

According to the report, the City People's Committee set up the centre in Decision 4741/QĐ-UBND by merging State Legal Aid Centres No. 1 and No. 2, as we reported earlier. A second decision, 4742/QĐ-UBND, now sets its functions, powers and structure. The report says the earlier decisions of January 21 on the two old centres are replaced.

The centre is a public service unit under the Department of Justice, with its own seal, headquarters and bank account, at 56 Trần Cao Vân in Thanh Khê ward. It provides free legal aid to eligible people and supports state administration. It will have up to two specialised divisions and two legal aid branches, and the Department of Justice's director appoints its director and deputies.

The report doesn't name the centre's leaders or say whether service hours will change.

Why it matters: Residents who use free legal advice will deal with a single office from November 1.
