Da Nang's tourism sector has been told to stop leaning on visitor counts. Closing the Party Committee's fifth plenary session on October 15, Party Secretary Lê Ngọc Quang asked it to move from raising arrivals toward longer stays and higher spending, according to Tuổi Trẻ and Báo Đà Nẵng.

The reports list what that means in practice: premium products built on the sea, local heritage and Quảng Nam’s cultural identity, a study of "attractive" night-economy spaces, and policies to support performing arts, entertainment and event organizing. Báo Đà Nẵng links the push to the Politburo's Resolution 26 on tourism and culture. No budgets, venues or dates were given for any of it.

The figures behind the message are strong. For the first nine months of 2026 the city reported more than 15.8 million overnight visitors, up over 26%, according to Báo Đà Nẵng. Tuổi Trẻ puts international visitors at about 7.7 million, up more than 28%. City GRDP grew 10.31% in the period, ninth among 34 provinces and cities, and 11.83% in the third quarter alone.

The full-year target is at least 11%, which needs roughly 12.8% to 13.6% growth in the fourth quarter. Statistics Office head Trần Văn Vũ called that very difficult, telling the meeting that the central region's storm and rainy season weighs on tourism and entertainment.

Why it matters

Expect the pitch to show up in what gets promoted and approved: evening programming, shows and higher-priced products rather than another visitor-record headline. The plenary also expects the General Planning for Da Nang to be approved this month, to be followed by an investment conference, Báo Đà Nẵng reports.
