Vehicles avoiding the BOT toll station on National Highway 1 are damaging roads in An Thắng ward and disturbing residents, Tuổi Trẻ reported on October 23. The station sits in Điện Bàn Bắc ward, next to An Thắng.
According to the report, two side roads just before each end of the station let drivers detour in about five minutes and save tens of thousands of dong. The district road ĐH15, which has a sign banning trucks over 6 tonnes, has deteriorated badly; the ward paid for repairs last November and fenced it off again for upgrading after fresh damage. Traffic has since shifted to the Thanh Quýt 3 hamlet, where residents quoted by Tuổi Trẻ describe noise at night, accident risks near school hours and dirty water splashing into homes.
An Thắng's Party secretary Nguyễn Xuân Hà told the paper the ward had to spend its own money on repairs. The station operator, Công ty CP Xây dựng công trình 545, says it has repeatedly asked authorities to act and has found no lasting solution. Tuổi Trẻ does not report any enforcement measures.
Why it matters: Until the detours are controlled, the repair bill and the traffic fall on one ward's residents.
