Da Nang traffic police have fined two dump-truck drivers after Tuổi Trẻ reported on October 20 that loaded trucks were using city streets closed to heavy vehicles.
According to Tuổi Trẻ's follow-up on October 21, the Hòa Hải traffic police station summoned the first driver on October 20. He was fined 5 million dong and lost two driving-licence points for taking a truck over 7.5 tonnes onto a road where such vehicles are banned. He admitted the violation and pledged not to repeat it, the paper reported.
A second driver was fined the same day, October 21, for driving a dump truck on Chương Dương Street, where a sign bars trucks over 7.5 tonnes.
Police told the paper the case followed its reporting and that Da Nang Traffic Police leadership ordered units to verify and handle it quickly. Officers are still checking other dump trucks seen on Trần Hưng Đạo Street. The report did not say which company, if any, the trucks worked for.
Why it matters: weight-limited streets are meant to keep heavy loads off residential roads. Still unknown: whether other drivers will be fined and what the checks on Trần Hưng Đạo find.
