About 3,470 children in Duy Nghĩa commune are getting free congenital heart screening from October 20 to 23, Báo Đà Nẵng reported.

The checks are run by the VinaCapital Foundation with the Da Nang Department of Health, Hoàn Mỹ Da Nang Hospital and the commune People's Committee, at Duy Nghĩa Primary School and Duy Nghĩa Kindergarten. The paper counts 2,507 primary pupils and 970 preschoolers. Hoiana Resort & Golf is a sponsor.

The report does not give how many children were flagged. Those who need intervention or surgery will be considered for support under the foundation's "Nhịp tim Việt Nam" (Heartbeat Vietnam) programme, with priority for families in difficulty.

For context, the paper says the programme has screened more than 500,000 children nationwide since 2007. In Da Nang, it says, 50,994 children were examined from 2010 to May 2025, with 574 diagnosed and 421 advised to have early surgery.

What is not yet known: this week's findings and how many operations will be funded.
