Da Nang's learning promotion association handed out 44 scholarships on the morning of October 17 to students whose parents crewed a squid-fishing boat that ran into trouble at sea in August, Báo Đà Nẵng reported.

Each scholarship is worth 3 million dong, about 132 million dong in total. Forty went to students in Núi Thành commune and four to students in Tam Hải commune. The money came from the learning promotion fund of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Learning.

The boat, registered as QNa-90859-TS, got into distress on August 25 about 35 nautical miles west of An Bang island in the Trường Sa special zone of Khánh Hòa province. According to the report, rescue forces saved all 32 crew members.

The report does not say whether any other support is planned for the families.
