Da Nang will host the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad (IAIO) in 2027, the first time Vietnam has hosted the contest and its first appearance in Southeast Asia, according to VietnamNet on October 17.

The Olympiad is set for February 25 to March 2, 2027, and organizers expect about 300 delegates from more than 40 countries and territories. The Research Institute for Innovation and Quality Accreditation (RIVA), which IAIO has authorized to run Vietnam's national selection and the Da Nang event, received the hosting flag from IAIO President John Shawe-Taylor. This year's contest was held in Slovenia, where Vietnam's team won two silver medals and one bronze.

Vietnam's selection runs under the name VAIO 2027. The national preliminary round takes place on October 18 in several localities, and the national final is expected on January 10, 2027, in Hanoi. The contest is open to lower and upper secondary school students nationwide, with a focus on mathematics, computer science, programming and AI.
