A government decision has approved Da Nang's general master plan to 2050, with a vision to 2075, according to Tuổi Trẻ, which reported on Wednesday, October 21 that a deputy prime minister signed it. The city's own newspaper, Báo Đà Nẵng, reported the same morning that the city's Party secretary chaired a meeting on staging the conference at which the plan will be announced.

Tuổi Trẻ describes a structure of three zones, three growth poles, two north-south axes and four east-west corridors. The poles are the northern Da Nang-Điện Bàn-Hội An area, a southern pole around Chu Lai and Tam Kỳ, and a linking pole south of Hội An. The corridors follow National Highways 40B, 14E and 14H, 14D and 14G toward the western border gates.

By 2050 the plan counts about 30 urban areas: 23 existing and seven new ones formed from commune-level units. Four are rated type II: Da Nang, Tam Kỳ, Hội An and Điện Bàn. For the Da Nang core, the report gives a natural area of about 67,737 hectares and a population of about 2.26 million, both excluding reclaimed-land areas of about 2,050 hectares and some 400,000 residents. A photo caption says Da Nang Bay is being studied for reclamation; no timetable is given.

Why it matters: the plan will shape where roads, housing and investment go for decades. What is not yet known: the decision's number and full text, how reclamation would proceed, and where a new administrative centre would sit, which workshop delegates said still has to be decided. The city has said it will announce the plan at an investment conference after November 20.
