Da Nang's Department of Construction and the Hòa Khánh ward authorities have set out how they plan to reduce flooding on Mẹ Suốt street, after residents reported deep water during heavy rain, according to Báo Đà Nẵng on October 16.
The paper reports that the city has asked agencies to study drainage across the Mẹ Suốt and Âu Cơ area. The Phùng Hưng drainage pipeline, which runs from the Hòa Minh canal to Da Nang Bay, is largely finished and has begun easing pressure on the Phú Lộc river upstream, with handover expected in December 2026. A canal along Road No. 4 in the Hòa Khánh Industrial Park will be upgraded, though no timeline was given.
The department is also drawing flood maps for central Da Nang under four rainfall scenarios, from 56 to 135 millimeters an hour. Ward authorities and the drainage company are to keep mobile pumps and crews at flood-prone points, and residents in areas that could see water of a meter or more should be warned to raise belongings, cut power and move out.
What is still unknown
The report gives no costs for these measures and no date for the Mẹ Suốt-specific plan, which is tied to wider projects such as the Western Ring Road. Residents should treat the December handover as the first concrete milestone.
