A Portuguese tourist's wedding ring lost in the surf at Mỹ Khê beach was found two days later and handed back on October 22 in Phú Quốc, more than 1,000 kilometres away, Tuổi Trẻ reported.
The couple, on honeymoon about three weeks after their October 3 wedding, searched the water for two hours without luck. Phan Thanh Trinh, a member of the beach tourism order team under the Sơn Trà Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches Management Board, began searching on October 19 with his own equipment and told them the help was free. The waves were too big on the first day. On October 21 he found the ring buried in chest-deep water and confirmed the engraving over a video call.
The couple had already flown to Phú Quốc, so Trinh flew there and returned the ring at the airport. They paid his round-trip airfare. He declined cash and other gifts and accepted a pair of chopsticks, according to Tuổi Trẻ.
The husband thanked him in a Facebook post, writing that the man "truly deserves to be honored" (translated from Vietnamese).
