On October 12, 2026, the city's official portal announced that the chairman of Da Nang's People's Committee had approved the investment and the investors for a waste-to-energy plant in Núi Thành commune. Danang.gov.vn reported the decision, No. 4642/QĐ-UBND.

The investors are Ngôi Sao Xanh Environment Co. Ltd. and Cẩm Thạch Xanh JSC. The plant will sit on about 17.2 hectares at the Nam Quảng Nam solid waste treatment area in Hòa Đông hamlet. It is designed to collect, treat and dispose of household, ordinary industrial and hazardous waste, and to burn it to produce power:

  • Capacity: 1,215 tonnes of waste a day; 15 megawatts of electricity.
  • Cost: 2,184 billion dong.
  • Schedule: investment, environmental, land and building permits from late 2026 to mid-2027; construction, installation and start-up from mid-2027 to the end of 2029.

The decision approves the investment, not construction. The plant still needs its environmental and land approvals.

Why it matters: the southern half of the city, the former Quảng Nam province, mostly buries its rubbish. A plant this size would take in waste from a wide area, and it handles hazardous waste as well as household rubbish. Residents near the Núi Thành site will want to see its environmental impact assessment, which hasn't been published yet.
