The People's Council of Phước Trà commune has approved a plan to restore stocks of cá niên, a fish found in the Trà Nô River, according to Báo Đà Nẵng on October 15.
The plan is budgeted at more than 325 million dong from local funds for 2026 to 2028. It sets aside a core ecological zone of about 3.8 kilometres, running from the confluence with the Gia River in Trà Nô village to a point in Trà Nhan village. It also proposes a supervised community fishing area of about 5,100 square metres beside the Khe Trót bridge, in front of the former Họa Mi kindergarten.
The targets are to bring back the natural cá niên population step by step, to set up at least three community models for protecting the fish in riverside villages, and to have every household along the river sign a pledge against destructive fishing and against littering or polluting the water. Commune Vice Chairman Nguyễn Thành Liêm is quoted as the official source for the plan.
Why it matters
The commune also wants the fish to become a local product tied to food, eco-tourism and community tourism. The report does not say how many fish remain, how stocking or monitoring will work, or when the fishing area would open to visitors.
