A macaque was found lying motionless beside a road on Da Nang's Sơn Trà peninsula on October 23, with a large pool of blood nearby and a partly eaten banana still in its mouth, Tuổi Trẻ reported on October 25. The animal was near the Bãi Bắc border guard station.

The photographer who found it had gone to look for a monkey reportedly caught in a trap. She told the paper that witnesses said someone had thrown bananas onto the road to draw monkeys down, apparently for pictures, and that she believes a vehicle hit the animal as it picked up the fruit. That account has not been confirmed by authorities.

She argued that regular feeding by visitors has taught the monkeys to expect food wherever people stop. The GreenViet Biodiversity Conservation Centre warned that feeding wildlife does long-term harm, because young monkeys learn to take food from people rather than forage.

The Sơn Trà Peninsula and Da Nang Beaches Management Board, working with Sơn Trà ward, has put up signs against feeding wildlife and posted staff where monkeys gather, Tuổi Trẻ said. The article gave no figures on monkey numbers, injuries or fines.
