Ten of the 15 houses being built for policy families in Sông Kôn commune are finished, and the remaining five, each at least half complete, are due in November, Báo Đà Nẵng reported after an inspection on October 20.

The inspection was led by Colonel Đinh Văn Hưng, deputy permanent secretary of the city's Military Party Committee and political commissar of the Da Nang Military Command. The homes replace temporary housing for children of resistance-war participants who were exposed to toxic chemicals. Support came from the commune government, the Military Region 5 staff, which provided 180 labour days, and the Sông Kôn 2 Hydropower Company, which gave 60 million VND to the three neediest households. The report does not state the programme's total budget.

Hưng also asked that the command's accommodation and equipment be reinforced and that landslide and flash-flood preparedness in the highland commune follow the "4 on the spot" principle (local command, forces, supplies and logistics).

Why it matters: Replacing temporary housing before the wet season is a safety issue in a mountain commune that regularly faces landslides. The report names no timetable beyond November for any wider programme.
