Contractors building the southern approach to the Sông Thu bridge in Thu Bồn commune had paved about 35,000 of roughly 40,000 square meters of asphalt by the afternoon of Friday, October 16, according to Báo Đà Nẵng, which reported on October 18.
The link is part of the project connecting National Highway 14H to provincial road ĐT609C: a 6-kilometer route, 0.9 kilometer of it on an existing road, with a 669-meter bridge that has carried traffic temporarily for more than a year. The city-funded budget is more than 378 billion dong, and work began on September 5, 2022.
Paving was supposed to finish in September, but rain on September 10-14 stopped work for about a week and rain on October 6-10 interrupted it again. The contractors expect to finish paving about a week after October 16 if the weather allows, and aim to complete the project essentially by the end of October. About 10,000 slope-cladding blocks, lighting and the junction near the former Duy Tân commune offices are the other items the report lists as nearly or still to be finished. The contractors also cite higher material prices.
The report does not say when the road will fully open to traffic.
