About 1,000 people in difficult circumstances received free medical checks on the morning of October 24 at the Tiên Phước Regional Health Center, Báo Đà Nẵng reported. They came from seven communes in the south of Da Nang: Tiên Phước, Sơn Cẩm Hà, Thạnh Bình, Lãnh Ngọc, Trà My, Trà Tân and Phú Ninh.
The event was organised by the Da Nang Fellow-Townsmen Association in Ho Chi Minh City with the Tiên Phước regional liaison committee and a volunteer medical team. Nearly 20 doctors from Chợ Rẫy Hospital, 115 People's Hospital and the University Medical Center of Ho Chi Minh City took part. Residents received general exams, health-indicator tests, advice on common illnesses and prescribed medicine, all free.
Doctors also advised on preventing respiratory, heart and blood-pressure problems as the weather turns cold. Organisers handed out 750 sets of warm clothing and 350 portions of formula milk to older people and families in hardship.
The report names former Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Võ Tuấn Nhân as an attendee and says city Fatherland Front and health department representatives were present.
Why it matters: Residents of the southern communes, some of them remote, got free care and medicine without travelling to the city.
