Trà Leng, one of Da Nang's mountain communes, has handed 111 water storage tanks to households in four hamlets and supplied 3,100 metres of plastic pipe for carrying water to farm plots, Báo Đà Nẵng reported on October 20.

The tanks went to 30 households each in Trà Dơn, Bằng Xim and Moang Roang, and to 21 households in Sar Chỉa, at a cost of VND332 million. Each household received a large-capacity tank with fittings. The pipe is HDPE plastic and cost more than VND137.5 million; it is meant to bring water from its source to fields on steep, scattered plots where, the commune says, getting water to crops is difficult.

Nguyễn Văn Vũ, deputy head of the commune's economic office, told the paper the aim was to let families store water for daily needs, particularly in mountain areas with difficult terrain. Châu Minh Nghĩa, chairman of the commune People's Committee, said the commune would keep supporting essential needs and would work with residents on looking after the equipment.

Why it matters: In steep upland hamlets, storing and moving water is part of farming and daily life, and the commune says households face difficulty getting water to their fields. The report does not say where the water comes from, or whether the tanks are meant to cover the dry season or the interruptions that follow storms.
