The University of Education, a member school of the University of Danang, signed a cooperation agreement on October 16 under the AsTEN Viet Nam Initiative, which aims to renew teacher training for the digital era, the University of Danang reported on October 19.
Six other Vietnamese universities are in the network: the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and An Giang University (both under Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City), Thai Nguyen University of Education, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Da Lat University and Thu Dau Mot University. The initiative links them to AsTEN, a regional association of Southeast Asian teacher-education universities.
The university says the aim is to move from one-off bilateral exchanges to coordinated partnerships that pool resources. Planned activities include exchanges of lecturers, students and experts, joint research and publications, shared quality-assurance practices and learning materials, and the use of new technology in education. Vice Rector Nguyễn Văn Hiếu said, in the report's paraphrase, that lecturers and students would be able to share experience and join joint training programs.
Why it matters: the school trains teachers for Da Nang and the surrounding region. Still unknown: the report gives no funding, timetable or student numbers.
