Da Nang has more registered students than any other locality for the preliminary round of the National Artificial Intelligence Olympiad 2026 (VAIO 2026), which takes place on Sunday, October 18, according to Báo Đà Nẵng.

Nearly 3,000 students in grades 6 to 12 from 17 provinces and cities registered, and 1,082 of them signed up in Da Nang. The paper-based multiple-choice test runs from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., is offered in Vietnamese and English, and covers AI fundamentals, logical reasoning and problem solving. The Da Nang site is Anh Quốc Primary, Secondary and High School. The city's Department of Education and Training, Department of Science and Technology and Union of Science and Technology Associations are organizing it with national partners.

The top 100 scorers advance to a national final planned for January 2027 in Hanoi, a practical computer exam on building and optimizing AI models. The results will help pick eight students for two Vietnamese teams for the International AI Olympiad, which Da Nang is due to host from February 25 to March 2, 2027.

What is still unknown

The report does not say how many of the Da Nang entrants are expected to sit the test or when results will be announced.
