The Vietnam Sustainable Development Forum 2026 opened at the Da Nang Administrative Center on the morning of October 23 and runs through October 24, Báo Đà Nẵng reported. It is organised by the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, the Party Central Policy and Strategy Commission and the city, under the theme "Local strategic planning: Development, Conservation, Adaptation, Connectivity."
The report says speakers linked the event to the shift to two-tier local government, which they said opens larger development space and calls for new planning thinking. Da Nang People's Committee Vice Chairman Lê Quang Nam said the city's planning must become prioritised programmes with clear responsibilities, and that the city wants lessons on cross-sector coordination, watershed management, flood corridors and nature-based solutions.
Báo Đà Nẵng notes the forum comes days after the October 21 approval of Da Nang's general plan to 2050. Friday's programme includes a plenary on reshaping cities and a policy dialogue on local strategic planning.
Why it matters: The forum is a venue for ideas on how the 2050 plan will be put into projects.
