Da Nang has approved the planning task for a general urban plan for Bà Nà, the western commune that includes the mountain resort area. Tuổi Trẻ reports that the city People's Committee signed off the brief, which covers the whole commune, about 13,640.75 hectares.

What was approved is the terms of reference for drawing up the plan, not the finished plan. The report gives no decision number or signing date.

By 2040 Bà Nà is meant to be a growth pole for the western part of the city, and by 2050 a strategic expansion zone for urban, industrial, commercial and service development. Tuổi Trẻ gives an urban population of about 55,000 in 2040 and 87,350 in 2050, with a workforce of 33,000 and 52,410. Visitors are projected at about 7 million a year by 2040 and 10 million by 2050, against roughly 4 million now.

Bà Nà commune was formed by merging Hòa Ninh and Hòa Nhơn in the former Hòa Vang district and has more than 25,000 residents. It is one of 10 communes the city council has approved a policy to upgrade to wards.

Nearby projects are already moving. The Đông Nam sườn đồi urban area, shared with Hòa Khánh ward, has investment policy approved in principle at more than 13,000 billion dong. A 97.23-hectare urban area west of the Nam Hải Vân bypass, estimated at about 7,141 billion dong, is out for feedback on an adjustment.

A resettlement area of more than 65 hectares will house households displaced by the Free Trade Zone, as Danang Voice reported earlier. The report quotes no officials or planners.
