Da Nang will raise the 2027 Bà Thu Bồn Festival to a city-level event, Báo Đà Nẵng reports. Deputy Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Anh Thi chaired a planning session on the afternoon of October 27 with city departments and the communes of Thu Bồn and Nông Sơn.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism proposed the upgrade, with hosting rotating between the two communes. The festival is a folk belief centred on worship of the Mother goddess. The report describes it as a symbol of exchange between Vietnamese and Champa culture since Vietnamese settlement of the area in the 14th century.
Each locality keeps its own ritual part, and the festival part adds cultural, arts and sports activities for residents and visitors. Nông Sơn, which hosts in 2027, will lead planning with Thu Bồn and must submit its plan to the City People's Committee before November 15. The Department of Finance will coordinate funding for 2027 and later years.
The report does not give dates for the 2027 festival, a budget or attendance figures.
