The Ministry of Construction has set up an appraisal council to review the detailed master plan for Chu Lai International Airport, in Núi Thành in Da Nang, for 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) reported on 4 November. Minister Trần Hồng Minh signed the decision.

The council is chaired by Deputy Minister Lê Anh Tuấn. Its members come from the ministries of defence, public security, finance, agriculture and environment, industry and trade, and culture, sports and tourism, plus Da Nang city government, several departments of the Ministry of Construction, and the state air traffic, airports and Vietnam Airlines corporations and Vietjet. The CAAV, as the body drafting the plan, must invite two outside aviation experts to review it.

Under the plan submitted for appraisal, Chu Lai would handle 5 million passengers a year with about 25 aircraft stands in 2021-2030. By 2050 the proposal raises that to 30 million passengers a year and about 68 stands, enough for large aircraft up to code E and F. The airport is designated as a shared civil and military facility at ICAO category 4F.

The CAAV item describes the council's formation and the proposed figures; it does not give a decision date or say when the plan could be approved. A plan under appraisal is not an approved plan, and it does not itself commit funding or a construction schedule.
