Authorities in Ha Nha commune, western Da Nang, have put up warning signs and banned unauthorised trekking on Bang Am mountain after a foreigner died there, Tuoi Tre News reported on Saturday, November 7.
The commune People's Committee said it is working with forest protection rangers to warn residents and visitors against entering the area without permission. It stressed that the mountain, also known as Am Thong or Tung Son, has not been licensed for tourism activities.
According to the report, the death was discovered on Thursday, November 5, after the person suffered an accident while trekking to the summit without authorisation. The report did not give the person's nationality, name, or the cause of the accident.
The summit stands at roughly 830 to 840 metres, about 40 kilometres from central Da Nang. The report describes steep slopes, deep ravines and slippery sections that become more dangerous in the rainy and stormy season, which the commune leader said is now under way.
Social media posts cited by the report describe the road to the summit as unsuitable for inexperienced motorbike and scooter riders, with steep gradients and many sharp bends, particularly on the descent. Those descriptions are not official findings.
Local authorities have also listed Bang Am in the city's investment attraction plan, with a call for investment to develop its natural resources.
