Da Nang has let trucks with four or more axles back onto National Highway 14D, less than a month after banning them while the road is upgraded. The Department of Construction said on the morning of 7 November, as Thanh Niên reported, that the city government had agreed to the change, which runs until 31 December 2026.
The ban took effect at midnight on 10 October. It was meant to protect traffic safety during construction and upgrading work, with exceptions for essential supplies, rescue vehicles and construction traffic.
The city reversed course after a delegation from Laos's Sekong province visited on 28 October. According to the department, Sekong officials said about 400,000 tonnes of ore still has to move through the Nam Giang international border gate to meet export contracts with third-country buyers. Missing delivery deadlines could expose the Lao companies to contract penalties.
From 1 January 2027, every tractor-trailer on the road must weigh no more than 42 tonnes in total, vehicle and cargo together. For ore carriers with five or more axles, that means cutting roughly 10 tonnes a load from what they carried before. The department says Sekong has agreed and will adjust its shipments.
The department also assigned tasks to other agencies. The city transport project board must keep construction on schedule and post warnings and blasting timetables at rock-blasting and deep-cut sections. City police were asked to draw up a plan for weight checks and patrols from 1 January and to deal with any congestion.
The Nam Giang gate management board is to publicise the new rules to vehicle owners and drivers. The Department of Industry and Trade will brief logistics firms and trade associations on the 2027 weight limit and gather views on how it affects trade, so the city can consider support for businesses if needed.
