The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has pushed back the reopening of Ca Mau Airport from 29 November to 18 December, VnExpress reported on 6 November, citing an ACV notice.

ACV blamed heavy October rain and shortages of some construction materials for delaying the upgrade and expansion project. It said the investor and contractors added workers and equipment but the works are not yet ready to operate.

The passenger terminal is finished and its electrical systems and equipment are in trial runs and adjustment. The runway, taxiway, apron and supporting technical works are still under construction. ACV says it will next install lighting and navigation aids, then test and accept the airport before opening.

Once it reopens, Vietnam Airlines plans a daily Ho Chi Minh City-Ca Mau service with Airbus A321 aircraft, and VASCO will keep using ATR72s. Vietjet plans a Hanoi-Ca Mau route with three round trips a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The project received the prime minister's approval in principle in October 2024, with about VND2.4 trillion from ACV's own funds. It includes a new 2,400-metre by 45-metre runway and a terminal expanded to handle 500,000 passengers a year, able to take A320 and A321 aircraft.

The story is nationwide and does not affect Da Nang flights; travellers heading to Ca Mau should check with their airline before booking around the new date.
