The Cù Lao Chàm Nature Reserve Management Board has returned two protected reptiles to the wild, Báo Đà Nẵng reported on October 26. They are an elongated tortoise weighing 1.6kg and a reticulated python of about 3kg.

The tortoise was handed to Hội An Đông Ward Police on October 23 by Trần Thanh Chung, according to the report. The python was reported on October 25 by Nguyễn Thị Tròn, who found it tangled in a net behind her house in Bãi Ông hamlet, Tân Hiệp commune.

The reserve worked with local authorities to release both animals into its protected habitat. It noted that the tortoise helps spread seeds and support forest regrowth, while the python helps keep prey numbers in check.

Both species are on the Group IIB list of endangered, precious and rare forest animals under Circular 85/2025/TT-BNNMT, issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on December 31, 2025.
