Da Nang's science and technology department says the city has closed its mobile dead zones in all 116 hamlets and residential clusters that lacked signal, and that 14 of the most remote sites are connected by Starlink satellite internet kits. Department director Nguyen Thanh Hong gave the figures on 7 November, Thanh Nien reported.
After the merger of Quang Nam and Da Nang, 116 hamlets and clusters had no or weak mobile coverage on 1 July 2026, the report says, and more than 14 of them had no mains electricity. A survey with Viettel found another 27 areas outside the original list, which were added to the work. By 30 October the city reported all 116 done, with Viettel building and switching on more than 36 base stations across 18 communes to bring 4G and 5G coverage.
Starlink at 14 sites
For the hardest places, the Ministry of Science and Technology supplied 14 Starlink kits to Da Nang: four hamlets and ten education sites. The hamlets are A'ur and Apat in A Vuong commune, Dac Cho Day in La Dee commune, and hamlet 3 in Phuoc Thanh commune. Viettel Da Nang and VNPT Da Nang installed the equipment, and the report says all 14 sites were installed, accepted and in use by 2 October, with speeds of several hundred megabits per second measured at many of them.
The kits are part of a national programme. In early September, the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority handed 254 Starlink Standard 4X kits to the science and technology departments of 13 provinces and cities, including Da Nang, Viet Nam News reported. Each kit came with a service package of up to 400 Mbps, free for six months, according to Mekong ASEAN.
The authority describes satellite links as a complement, with ground-based networks remaining the basic long-term solution. The reports reviewed do not say what happens to the Da Nang kits when the six-month free service period ends.
What comes next
The department plans to keep checking for remaining weak-signal pockets with the carriers and communes, and to propose a 2027 telecoms infrastructure plan. The city has also agreed in principle to deploy Starlink terminals and service in six border communes to support disaster response and emergency communications.
