Da Nang's naming council agreed on the afternoon of 4 November to propose names for 83 roads and one public facility in 2026, Bao Da Nang reports. Deputy Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Anh Thi chaired the meeting.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, which serves as the council's standing body, surveyed 150 roads and public facilities and first proposed names for 115 roads and one facility. After comments from members and experts, the council settled on 83. It set aside 32 proposed names linked to innovation, artificial intelligence and technology for further study and will not consider them in this round.
In Ngu Hanh Son ward, the council asked local officials to look further into historical figures and cultural values for road names, and agreed to rename Dong Ho street as Nguyen Xuan Ba street. For a road honouring Nguyen Ba Thanh, the late Da Nang Party secretary, it chose the option of naming provincial road DT605, from National Highway 1 to near Cam Ly bridge, on the border of Dien Ban Bac ward and Dien Ban Tay commune.
Thi asked the department to build a bank of names, especially drawn from war heroes and others who contributed to the country, so future rounds are not rushed. The department will finish the file and a draft resolution, which goes to the city People's Council at its end-of-year session. The list is a proposal until councillors vote.
