The 75 to 80 kilometres of Coastal Route 129 between the Cua Dai bridge in Hoi An Dong ward and Chu Lai airport have no petrol station, Tuoi Tre reports. The road, which links Da Nang with Quang Ngai and is also known as Vo Chi Cong road, carries growing numbers of trucks and tour vehicles bringing visitors from Hoi An.
Drivers have to plan their fuel ahead or leave the route to find a pump on other roads. Petrolimex's Quang Nam branch told the newspaper it is surveying sites along the road and completing procedures with local authorities, with some localities helping to find land.
Branch director Nguyen Ngoc Hung said access to suitable land has run into obstacles, and that the company aims to build as soon as possible. Le Van Sinh, Party secretary and People's Council chairman of Tam Xuan commune and a former director of the Quang Nam Department of Transport, said a company once proposed a rest stop in the former Binh Minh commune, but the project did not go ahead.
Sinh said investing in fuel stations is now easier, because a site no longer has to match the local retail fuel network plan when applying for a retail fuel eligibility certificate. He added that vacant and commercial-service land remains along the route and could host fuel stores and rest stops.
Da Nang also plans a high-speed road from the city centre to Chu Lai. Tuoi Tre says the first section, about 46.9 km, follows the existing Le Van Hien road before a new alignment west of the Truong Giang river, while the second, about 41.8 km, largely follows the existing Route 129 and would be upgraded; rest stops and essential services are to be planned alongside it.
