Saigon Joint Stock Commercial Bank (SCB) has lowered the maximum it lets individual customers send through the Napas 247 fast-transfer system to VND20 million per working day, Dan Tri reports. The limit applies to personal customers on mobile and internet banking from 18:20 on 30 October.
The bank said the change is meant to "strengthen transaction safety and protect customer accounts" against fraud and account takeover on electronic channels. Customers who need to send more are told to contact a branch or transaction office. Dan Tri notes that many other banks set online transfer limits of VND200 million to VND400 million a day.
The article lists earlier changes: from 200 million down to 100 million and then 50 million in August 2024, 10 million in September 2024, back up to 100 million in December 2024, and now 20 million. It does not state the limit in place immediately before 30 October.
SCB has also cut deposit rates sharply since 26 October. VietNamNet reports that its online savings rates now range from 0.1% a year for terms of one to five months to 0.7% for 24 to 36 months, cuts of between 1.5 and 3.2 percentage points, and that the non-term rate fell from 0.5% to 0.1%.
A separate ordinary deposit product keeps 3.7% for 12 months and 8.7% for 13 months, with no conditions given. By comparison, the highest listed online rate in VietNamNet's table was 7.4% a year for 18 months.
The bank has been under special State Bank control since mid-2022. Dan Tri says it has shrunk from nearly 240 transaction points to eight, in six provinces and cities, according to its website on 3 November. Customers holding large balances should check their limits and the rates on their products.
