Vietnam's General Department of Taxation has clarified when household businesses can be fined for late notifications, Thanh Niên reports. The clarification came in an official dispatch to the Dong Thap tax authority.

Under Circular 50/2026, there is currently no penalty for a household business that is late or fails to notify its bank account or e-wallet number, unless the tax authority has issued a separate written request, the department said.

Fines of up to VND5 million apply only after the authority sends a written request for information, documents or account details and the household business does not comply, provides incomplete or inaccurate information, or is more than five working days late. These penalties come under Decree 125/2020. Fines of VND2 million to VND3 million apply to late registration-related documents or accounting records, and VND3 million to VND5 million to failing to provide, or providing incomplete or inaccurate, tax information, including bank-account details requested by a competent authority.

For revenue notification, household businesses with actual annual revenue of VND1 billion or less that started operating in the first six months of the year, and have no special consumption, natural resource or environmental tax or fee obligations, must file Form 01/TKN-CNKD by 31 July. The department says there is currently no penalty for filing late or not at all, but the obligation to notify fully and on time remains.

It said it will consider feedback on penalty rules when drafting a decree to replace Decree 125/2020, which has been amended by Decrees 310/2025 and 291/2026.
