Registered foreign direct investment in Vietnam reached $54.85 billion in the first ten months of 2026, up 74% on a year earlier, according to the statistics office under the Ministry of Finance as reported by VnEconomy. The paper says it is the highest since 2009, about 17 years.
Newly registered capital was $30.73 billion from 3,478 projects, 2.2 times last year's level, with the number of projects up 4.7%. Capital added to existing projects was $16.13 billion from 1,079 adjustments, up 33.2%. Capital contributions and share purchases totalled $7.99 billion across 2,616 transactions, up 49.6%.
Disbursed FDI was an estimated $24.08 billion, up 13.1% and the highest for the first ten months in five years. Manufacturing and processing led with $14.61 billion of newly registered capital, 47.5% of the total, and accounted for 82.9% of disbursements.
Singapore was the largest source of new capital at $9.52 billion (31%), followed by South Korea at $5.81 billion (18.9%). Luxembourg, Hong Kong, mainland China and Japan followed.
VnEconomy notes that the money is concentrated in large projects. Registered capital is a commitment, not money already spent, which is why the disbursement figure is lower.
