Airbus expects Vietnam to need about 1,000 more aircraft over the next 20 years, VnExpress reports. Wouter van Wersch, chairman of Airbus International, presented the forecast to the press on 3 November.
He said passenger traffic in Vietnam could grow about 7.7% a year over that period, roughly double the global average. Vietnamese airlines already operate about 230 Airbus aircraft and have more than 220 on order. Airbus holds about 90% of the narrow-body market and 50% of the wide-body market in the country.
As of September 2026 Vietnam had 258 aircraft registered to 13 companies, of which 231 were commercial airliners. Major domestic carriers mainly fly the A320 family. Vietnam Airlines operates 14 A350s and Vietjet flies A330s.
Airlines have made several orders this year. Vietravel Airlines ordered 50 narrow-body aircraft (A321neo and A220), Vietnam Airlines signed a memorandum of understanding for more A350s, and Vietjet ordered 40 A330-900s. The figures are a manufacturer's forecast, not a commitment by any airline.
