Da Nang's advisory council on street and public-works names has picked the longer of two proposed routes for a road honouring Nguyen Ba Thanh, the former city Party secretary, Tuoi Tre reports. The decision came at a meeting on the afternoon of 4 November.
The chosen option is Provincial Road DT605, about 11.7 kilometres from National Route 1 to Cam Ly Bridge, on the boundary between Dien Ban Bac and Dien Ban Tay wards. The shorter alternative covered about 6.2 kilometres, ending at the boundary between Hoa Tien commune and Dien Ban ward.
Historian Bui Van Tieng, chair of the Da Nang Historical Science Association, said the route passes through Hoa Tien, Thanh's hometown. He also noted that Cam Ly Bridge was built from girders of the old Tran Thi Ly bridge and symbolises cooperation between Quang Nam and Da Nang before their merger.
Vice Chair Nguyen Thi Anh Thi announced the decision and said it would be recorded in the minutes and used to finish the file for the City People's Council. She also asked that names honouring Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces and war martyrs take priority over technology-themed names.
The standing agency was told to build a fuller bank of street names for later rounds. The council's wider list was narrowed to 83 roads and one public work.
