Ho Chi Minh City plans two pedestrian bridges over Ton Duc Thang Street to connect the downtown area with the Saigon River waterfront, VnExpress International reported on 3 November. They would land at the Nguyen Hue and Thai Van Lung intersections with Ton Duc Thang.

The steel bridges would be 6 metres wide, with elevators and decorative lighting. Together they would cost more than VND88 billion (about US$3.4 million), funded privately.

The city People's Committee has given in-principle approval. The Department of Construction is collecting feedback from other agencies before negotiating with the developer, Great Wealth Trading and Services Co. Ltd., under a build-transfer arrangement.

The company would cover construction, management and operating costs. In return it could install billboards and LED screens for political communication and advertising, and offer services at designated sites.

Both bridges would link to a Saigon River pedestrian bridge expected to open in February 2027. Piers B and C in the Ba Son area are also due to be renovated. The report gave no new completion date after the original 30 April target slipped.
