Da Nang's Department of Construction has told a contractor to install temporary culverts at two flood spots on the ĐT.603B coastal road linking central Da Nang and Hoi An, Tuổi Trẻ reported on October 26. The department said the work should be finished before October 30.
The two points are in front of The Pearl Hội An resort in Hội An Tây ward and near the Malibu resort in Điện Bàn Đông ward. Residents had complained that water stalls motorbikes and cars and backs up traffic, at one point rising above half a motorbike wheel. The paper says flooding often follows rain lasting more than 30 minutes.
On October 25 the paper saw sidewalks dug up to lay pipes from low-lying ground to the drainage culverts. The department called the work an immediate fix to improve drainage at the flooded points.
Residents told the paper they have waited a long time for the upgrade, and that water sometimes enters homes when large vehicles pass. The report does not say when a permanent drainage solution will be built.
