A week into the traffic diversion around the Hòa Xuân Bridge interchange, peak-hour congestion persists and many drivers are still learning the new routes, Báo Đà Nẵng reports. The changes took effect at 9am on 31 October.

The diversion supports the upgrade of the Lê Thanh Nghị – Cách Mạng Tháng Tám – Thăng Long interchange in Hòa Cường and Hòa Xuân wards. Officials expect the work to end the jams on the bridge and nearby streets once it is finished.

The main change is that traffic can no longer go straight onto the bridge from Lê Thanh Nghị. Drivers heading for Hòa Xuân ward must turn right onto Cách Mạng Tháng Tám.

Coming the other way, vehicles leaving the bridge must turn right at the Thăng Long junction instead of continuing onto Lê Thanh Nghị. A no-U-turn sign stands about 50 metres from the interchange on Thăng Long.

Stopping and parking is banned on stretches of Nguyễn Hữu Thọ, Trần Đăng Ninh and Lê Thanh Nghị, and on Trần Huấn from 6am to 8am and 4pm to 7pm. Trucks serving the Hòa Cường wholesale market are barred from Nguyễn Hữu Thọ, Xô Viết Nghệ Tĩnh and Lê Thanh Nghị from 4am to 11pm.

Within the restricted zone, trucks over 2.5 tonnes and passenger vehicles with 16 or more seats are banned around the clock. Trailer trucks heading to Tiên Sa port are being directed along signed alternatives, including routes via Trường Chinh and the Hòa Cầm overpass.

Traffic police and Cẩm Lệ ward police are on duty at the interchange. The paper says the project was announced in a notice dated 27 October.
