The Ministry of Health's Preventive Medicine Department has urged people to take precautions against seasonal flu, Báo Đà Nẵng reported on October 27. The department notes that the virus circulates all year in Vietnam, and that case numbers can rise at certain times depending on region and weather.
It singles out seasonal transitions and the cold autumn and winter months as periods needing extra attention. The report gives no case counts.
For the general public, the advice is to wear a mask properly in health facilities, crowded places and enclosed spaces, and to cover the mouth and nose when coughing. Used tissues should go in a proper bin, followed by hand-washing with soap and clean water or hand sanitiser. The department also recommends exercise and a balanced diet.
People with fever, cough, sore throat or a runny nose should limit contact with others, rest, wear a mask around other people and monitor their health. They are told not to take antiviral drugs or antibiotics on their own without a health worker's instruction. Homes, workplaces and classrooms should be cleaned regularly on frequently touched surfaces and kept well ventilated.
People at higher risk of severe illness are advised to avoid crowds and to contact a health facility promptly if symptoms appear. A linked Báo Đà Nẵng piece on flu vaccination says children, older adults and people with underlying conditions should get vaccinated.
